Fire Door Inspection Service

Fire Door Inspection

Your Responsibility & The Law

Why do you need a Fire Door Inspection?  The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies to all buildings other than domestic housing, but includes common areas of apartment dwellings and flats, and replaces 118 pieces of previous fire legislation, including the old fire certificates which are no longer valid.

The law now shifts responsibility from the fire authorities for fire safety to whoever has day-to-day control of premises. Each business must appoint a responsible person, who could be the owner, manager, facilities manager, or an expert consultant appointed to manage the fire risk to the building, including those using the premises and its immediate surroundings.

The designated responsible person is required by law to ensure that all fire safety provisions are met and maintained. This includes the inspection and maintains of your buildings’ fire door safety systems.
Non – compliance is a criminal offence and can lead to fines, restrictions on operations within the building, ‘closure’ of the building whilst necessary works or safety measures are complete, or a custodial sentence.

What Does A Fire Door Inspection Include?

A Fire Door Inspection will quickly establish if you and your premises are fully compliant with current fire safety legislation.
Based on a recent risk assessment or building conditions survey, our inspector will visit your premises and make recommendations to ensure compliance is achieved.
Our inspection report will advise on the status, taking into account gaps, glazing, and door hardware. It will also advise on the suitability of upgrading existing leafs as preferable to a full replacement.

The report will outline a set of recommendations, including essential works required to meet the current guidelines, as well as a list of non-critical but advisable works.

“Thank you for the survey received today. Such a welcome change to receive usable data we understand, rather than reams of meaningless statements and standards. Well done!”

Customer | Residential Complex

Our fire door surveys, as the client above noted, are designed to deliver user – friendly data that can be passed directly to Facilities Managers or remedial teams. Faults are classified according to their severity and the effect they might have in the event of a fire incident. We identify ‘Critical’ issues that require immediate action and then categorise other faults accordingly.
