Independent Fire Safety Services:

Certificate in Fire Door Studies

Over the years we have amassed a wealth of knowledge relating to the use, misuse and sometimes abuse of fire doors.

Whilst we would never claim to be ‘experts’ (that implies we know all there is to know) we know our stuff.

Fire doors are a complex life-critical component in most buildings and as such anyone involved in the specification, purchasing, sales and maintenance of fire doors should always look to increase their knowledge of the product and to facilitate effective learning we have developed the Independent Fire Safety Services Certificate in Fire Door Studies.

The course is open to anyone, whether it be a Builders Merchant employee looking to increase their knowledge to be able to advise customers on what to buy, a Facilities Manager wanting to better understand the life safety assets they need to maintain or anyone who perhaps needs CPD material for their portfolio.

The course is best suited to solo learning, level 1 and level 2 and can be completed electronically or in written format, the Certificate Assessment is a written examination.

The certificate course is split into three parts

Level 1 |  The Basics                    CPD allocation 8 hours

Looking at common terms, the components used in fire door manufacture and the role they play in the doorset as a whole.

Level 2 |  Technical Study        CDP allocation 20 hours

A much more detailed module looking at the specification of doorsets, different materials used and methods of manufacture as well as effective maintenance.

We will also look at common installation errors.

Certification documents and Global Assessments will be considered to increase awareness of product limitations.

Level 3 |  Technical Study        CDP allocation 4 hours

A detailed written assessment/exam which will be marked when complete. Subject to reaching the desired number of marks a  Certificate will be awarded.

When an application is made and payment cleared the relevant manual will be delivered electronically to the candidate. Each manual will be specific to the learner and should not be shared. The module can be completed electronically or can be printed and completed in writing.

At the time of writing The IFSS certificate in Fire Door Studies is not endorsed by any recognised body or training provider. We believe very strongly though that the course content will prove invaluable for anyone looking to improve their product knowledge without enrolling on any ‘official’ course.

Naturally, we would always recommend an officially recognised course should one be available and suitable for the applicant.
